The WOW Team

Sowmya

Sowmya: I run 1Across.org. I set for “The Hindu” as Hypatia, have compiled and published Cryptic Crossroads 1 and 2 and have been dabbling in cryptics since my school days. I enjoy terrible puns (including those I make), listening to music, anagramming random names and puzzles of all kinds. I worship at the temple of Wodehouse and consider all his writing sacred:)

Stella
Stella: Perennially ranked among the top ten speed-solvers of standard American crosswords, Stella Zawistowski has been setting and solving cryptics since 2019. Her cryptics have appeared on TheBrowser.com, Out of Left Field Cryptics, and the Inkubator.
Aashwina

Aashwina: Crosswords are a hobby that I have embraced after my retirement from active work life and they keep me occupied ( CCS and 1 Across ). The games in 1Across and SOTM/COTM have helped me brush my skills in setting as I appreciate the lovely clues and solves. I hope to set a grid on my own this year and I am working towards it !!

Lakshmi

I set crosswords using the pseudonym “SARAL” for Col’s blog & for 1Across. As the name suggests, I’m a simple, peace loving person interested in crosswords, music ( esp carnatic), reading & drawing. My dad’s elder brother was a superb solver. I used to admire his speed at solving The Hindu cws.I guess I got this craziness for cws from him. All the best to 1Across in this year as we do our first group grid for Women’s day !

Rachel

Rachel: I have been solving crosswords for over 20 years but only started setting them a year ago. I set under the name Angel and my first published puzzle appeared in The Independent in December 2020. I am based in the UK and am a medical librarian, poet and editor.

Amrita

Amrita: I have been a part of the Cryptic Crosswords society and 1Across for the past 7 years and love solving and posting clues on these Facebook groups. These communities have encouraged me to try my hand at setting grids too. I am thrilled to be included as a setter for this special.
