First there was a symbol, and then there was a Word

Welcome to “The Oracle’s” Jumbo thematic crossword in a grid designed on the basis of the Sierpinski carpet.

Given the nature of the grid, there are a large number of three letter answers. However, if you highlight the thematic answers, which are pretty long ones and have to do something with this season and the squares bounded by them, in any colour other than black, you will see a symbol.

Combine that with a word and you will get the name of a type of puzzle, which is 9 letters long.

If you have solved, the full puzzle, please mention the 9 letter word.

Look for “directions” in the solved grid, to assist you to answer a question when you submit.

We will be accepting submissions until midnight IST of 2nd January 2017. The puzzle will be discussed at 1ACross on 3rd January 2017 and results will be published in our blog on the same day.

All those who submit all correct entries have a chance to enter our Hall of Fame. So, all the best to all of you who are trying..

Also, wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
