The theme is World Social Media Day, which is observed on June 30, coinciding with the approximate date of publication of the puzzle. The theme is yielded by extra letters from across clues, together with the term X, an example of a social media platform. Letters changed in the final grid are highlighted in yellow, which lead to 4 further platforms appearing in the grid, namely FACEBOOK, SNAPCHAT, INSTAGRAM and TIKTOK, which are boxed in red in the solution grid.
